The city of Nottingham and its surroundings countryside harbours a varied student population due to the educational facilities the city has to offer. Two universities the being that of University of Nottingham and the Nottingham Trent University together with several colleges have made a considerable contribution that impart a creative flavour to the city’s life. Many varied and entertaining culture and evening activities are put on by the various organizations, thus it is easy to guess that Nottingham is a perfect place for 40,000 full-time students that throng the campuses. The University of Nottingham is larger than the Nottingham Trent University and also features one of Britain’s largest medical education institution. The first year students and other students who wish to live in the buildings of the university are provided with nice accommodations in an award-winning set of buildings on the University Park Campus. It has many halls and lies just to the West of the city centre; each hall can hold from 200 up to 300 residents. Another large educational institution of the city is the Nottingham Trent University. It got its name in honour of the Trent River that flows through the centre of city. At the very beginning of its existence it was Trent Polytechnic, however in 1992 it became a full-fledged university. Nowadays the Nottingham Trent University graduates over 25,000 students every year, with many much needed and high end occupational abilities. Nottingham Trent provides its students with campuses as well. For example Clifton Campus focuses on humanities and science departments, Brackenhurst on home rural and animal sciences. The University Union manages the activities of student organizations and also maintains such amenities like that of the student bars, gyms, and shops. Unlike their rival they produce a student newspaper called the “Platform”, they also arrange music nights every week and carry two station broadcasts being the “Fly FM” and “Kick FM”. The city is very proud of its schools and colleges that also contribute to cheerful student culture. Some of the educational organizations have even become famous for their graduates who have become very well known putting the city on the map for such things as the Nottingham School of Fashion. Acting Career And Life Of Nargis

Nargis, considered to be one of the most well-known actresses in the Indian Hindi film industry, was born as Fatima Rashid. Her on-screen name, Nargis, is the name of a flower, Narcissus. Making her film debut as a child artist in the 1935 movie Talash-E-Haq, she began her full-fledged acting career with the 1942 film Tamanna.
Her mother, Jaddanbai , a classical singer and a courtesan, introduced her to Bollywood so that she also doesn’t become a courtesan.
She has acted in several blockbuster movies with popular actors like Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor. Andaz, Awaara, Deedar and Barsaat were some of their best movies. She was an actress for almost twenty years starting from the ’40s to the ’60s and Mother India was her most acclaimed movie. For this film, she got the best actress award in Filmfare awards. Enacting the role Radha in this movie, this was considered as one of the best roles she had ever played. It was on the sets of this film that she met her future life partner Sunil Dutt, who had reportedly saved her from a fire in between the film-shoot.
Nargis decided to quit acting after her marriage. Namratha, Priya Dutt and Sanjay Dutt were their kids.
Nargis received the esteemed Urvashy Award which is the highest award given to an actress in Hindi cinema. She has also received many other awards including Padma Shri, National Film Award and the Karlovy Award. She was the first star of Bollywood to receive this esteemed award.
Other than acting, Nargis established the Ajanta Arts Cultural Troupe, with her husband. This group, with many well-known actresses and actors, performed at the border to entertain the soldiers.
Her troupe was one of the first groups that performed at Dhaka, after the Indo-Pakistani war. Nargis was also nominated to the Rajya Sabha. However, she left her term in mid way as she was diagnosed to have cancer in pancreas and gave in.
Apart from being a great actress, Nargis was also known as a devoted social worker. She helped The Spastics Society of India and put efforts to the advantage of children affected with spastic ailments. She remained fresh among her family members as her seat was unoccupied during the premiere of Rocky, Sanjay Dutt’s debut movie. In her memory, the Nargis Dutt Memorial Cancer Foundation was built.
